U.S. To Be Hit By Massive Cyber Attack On Feb. 16. Asterisk.

On February 16, at about 10:00 am ET, the U.S. will be hit by a massive, crippling cyber attack from an unknown entity. Key players will convene in the White House situation room and plan the response, from mitigation to (possibly) retaliation. It'll be live on television -- G.N.N.

Of course, my knowledge of this attack will not add me to the radar screens of the FBI -- they know about it too. The reason I felt compelled to write a pseudo-serious lead to this post is because, for the first time, a cyber attack is going to be war-gamed, in public, for all the country to see. It will be quite realistic, featuring senior intelligence and national security officials, including former directors of intelligence agencies and combatant commands and homeland security advisers. A production company has been hired to re-create a White House Sit Room in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and professional scriptwriters have been working with experts to create a real-life scenario.

The sponsors of the event include companies with financial stakes in the future of cyber defense -- General Dynamics is one -- but also companies whose transactions are the lifeblood to the American economy, and who want to foster a greater sense of urgency among the public and policymakers. (PayPal has joined as a sponsor.)

Actual participants don't know what's going to happen. I have a general idea, but I have been sworn to keep the scenario a secret until it unfolds. It will be, I can say, dynamic -- runners with cards will enter the "Sit Room" with new information. It is not obvious. And it will not be easy to mitigate.

At the end, participants will step out of their roles for a hotwash -- open to the press and the experts.

At least three times this year, the U.S. government has held private versions of cyber wargames. This will be open to the press. CNN has agreed to record the event for broadcast later in the week.

Participants include John Negroponte, the first DNI, who will be the fictional Secretary of State. (Intel insiders will enjoy this role change.) Ex-DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff will be the National Security Adviser. Fran Townsend, the former White House Homeland Security Adviser, will be the secretary of DHS. Former CIA deputy director John McLaughlin will be the Director of National Intelligence. Other big-name participants include Jamie Gorelick, Stewart Baker, Joe Lockhart and Bennet Johnson.

The Bipartisan Policy Center, which has ported over the 9/11 Commission co-chairs, Lee Hamilton and Tom Keane, is coordinating the event.

Yeah I know it's a been a while since the last update. But there hasn't been too much worth posting on the front page.

What have we all been up to? There are two new MC's, Axile and Swordguy. We have been playing all kinds of games these days and not staying too long on any particular ones. One staple around here has been COD4 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare with a new Star Wars Mod, Galactic Warfare by Black Monkeys.

In other news...

Infinity Ward has succeded in their plan to have COD MW2 drop off in popularity due to the lack of real multiplayer support and a short single player campaign. According to Xfire's Game stats, Call of Duty Modern Warfare is in second place for the last 83 days. Modern Warfare 2 enjoyed a brief popularity but from what I see on my friends lists, it has steadily diminished since the first few weeks of it's release. The popularity of the previous versions carried into MW2 but MW2 can't stand on it's own like the other games in the series. I'm not saying it isn't popular or not being played, it's number 4 on the X-fire list as of this writing, but it should have been number one or two below WoW and stayed there for a long time. As far as I am concerned they dropped the ball big time. I for one will not even consider this game for the single player until it's about $10. Considering that COD4 hasn't changed in price for quite some time I have a long time to wait.

It's almost time to get back into Anarchy Online...

ParaDOX

Front Page News - October 18th, 2009

This blog post needs no introduction. We are in the final stretch of the release of the most anticipated FPS sequel of the season. November 10th, 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hits the shelves (or steam store for those who prefer digital distribution). Up to this point, I, along side hundreds of thousands of players, could not keep our eyes of the amazing trailers and other game spoilers which only increased our temptations 10 fold like a dog receiving table scraps on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, this past weekend a 'spoiler' has horrifically turned our once begging desires into sour despise. That spoiler being the death to freedom of individualism, unity and choice in both the interactive and competitive gaming communities. Welcome to the Age of Gaming Socialism.

I have always been one for simplicity in my gaming choices. I game with the members of the MC/Paradises Garage community any time available. If there is a community member playing a game that I want to play, you bet I would be joining that same server right behind them. Most typically the server I would be joining would be an {MC} Paradise server. I know what I like, and that's fellowship in community and familiar surroundings, hence my choices. And unless you sported a [CoR] tag, I respected your being and opinion because it was most likely like mine: you know what you like, and what you like is fellowship through community and familiar surroundings. There is no idea to trump that logic. This is the gaming we know and love. With Modern Warfare 2, this is a thing of the past.

Modern Warfare 2 introduces you to a new reality where Infinity Ward (The creators of Call of Duty MW2) tells you where to go, who to play with and what your going to play. All made possible by the recent announcement that there will be 'no dedicated servers.' With this brilliant concept, Infinity Ward helps simplify your already simplified choice in server choice. So Instead of loading your favorites, and choosing one of the only 2 servers you play at, you get to press a similar 'join game' button which magically whisks you away to a server with a potentially similar excitement and fun level as Delaware. Upon entering this whimsical cesspool of unnecessary e-thugs and hypocritical logic-enforcing 'mature' peace-keepers (which reminds you of political gerrymandering of a more racist America), you will find sanctity in the one player who prefers to use the team chat for the use of strats rather than the reinforcement of MTV's latest update on rapper wars, who will then quickly part from you upon the next map change. After about 20 minutes of feeling the metaphorical chains of oppression you will probably enter a state of appreciation for gaming communities...if you do not quit the game first.

But there is a way to prevent this from ever happening, because after all I only saw that in my flashforward. First of all, everyone should sign this petition to allow dedicated servers. Dedicated servers is the absolute essence of PC gaming, for it is the oasis for communities, clans, orgs, guilds, mods, and game-play that we are all ready accustomed to. To sign this petition, please visit http://www.petitiononline.com/dedis4mw/petition.html and sign. This is serious business (just like everything else on the internet), and thus should be signed with all seriousness. Secondly, If you preordered this game, I would recommend canceling that preorder. That does a few things. 1, it saves you money and time. Since this game is going to be distributed through steam for security purposes, preordering a digitally distributed game would be like calling in your order to McDonald'ss for it to be ready in a few hours. 2, a sufficient reduction of preorders upon a singleconceptt will scare the hell out of this company just trying to make a buck. 3, why waste your money on a game where you may have to experience the feelings portrayed in the paragraph above?

After such an outcry that has gone on these last few days, I see no fear in the above example coming true, but until this changes, I for one will not fall victim to gaming socialism.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Kanye West Would Say: Robert Bowling, I'm going to let you finish failing, but Call of Duty 4 had the best dedicated servers of all time

Click here to join us in the forums to discuss this.

Front Page News - July 4th 2009

Happy Independence Day to all of our American community members, and to everyone else, have a nice weekend!

Safely enjoy the fireworks! I'm probably gooing to stay home and watch them on TV this year while gaming online.

The Game of choice these days is Anarchy Online. For those of you who have played AO in the past you should take another look into it. There is a ton of new content, new expansions and of course there is the Free accounts (Froob Account) which are still tons of fun. Other than the upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 there aren't any other games I'm interested in for now.

There are a few new voices in Ventrilo these days. Jump in and say Hi. We also added a Ventrilo status bar to the Server list so you can see who is on without joining in, not sure if that is a good idea or not, lol....

In other news... Several celebrities have recently passed away.

Michael Jackson

Farrah Fawcett

Billy Mays

Ed McMahon

It seems like Troop died again (figuratively speaking). He has once again faded into obscurity.... oh well it's fun while it lasts...

Front Page News - April 10, 2009

Well, April fools is over...

The funny thing is how few even noticed or cared....

So now for the real site update!

Some of which was said is true, such as: This was originally a House Music site, and then became a gaming site. However as all of you know, this is now much better known as a Gaming community so it will remain. There is no reason we can't have the House music stuff going on as well. The game server have dropped in their popularity, gone are the days of full servers for us. CS1.6 is still fun but essentially most people have moved on. So while I think we should shut down most of the servers we will not shut them all down. I am going to post a vote in the forums to see which servers you all think should be saved.

Your Vote counts! GO Vote!

We are keeping the COD4 and CODWaW servers up of course because that's pretty much all we play these days. So Join us and get in the Vent!

Oh and Troop has visited us but is still pretty scarce! is here.

Front Page News - 1/19/2009

The website upgrade is complete!

I have been working on this upgrade since last year, and was planning on finishing it "eventually", most of you know how my scheduling is... However a major security update forced my hand and I had to complete the upgrade sooner than planned. Basically the site is the same, it's still based on Community server, but now it's the latest version 8.5 SP1. The Upgrade went smoothly all that was basically required is recreating the theme based on one of the new themes.

New Features:

New Home page, once logged in you can see a lot more information on the front page such as:

Left Side:

The Latest - Quick Blurbs about whatever...

MC Server List - All of our servers and quick links to join them.

Favorites - Lists items that you have added to your favorites.

Center:

Current Message

Front Pages news now reads the most current News Blog

Your Conversations, no need to go to your profile to see if there are any messages for you.

Friends Activity, see what your friends are up to, shows posts, blogs, media, announcements, friends, etc...

Right Side:

Your Avatar

Groups you belong to (More on Groups)

Latest Blogs

Latest Forum Posts

Latest Downloads

Latest User Images

Your Files - You can store files here now, create subfolders etc, share them etc...

My Home Page - Profile Page has new features too. Lots more information.

Downloads and Phots have been merged into the Media Gallery. It now supports various media file types and most file types.

User no longer get a personal Photo Gallery. Not a mojor loss because most users didn't even use this feature. I deleted the empty galleries of all users that were not members of the following groups:

MC

Beta Testers

Mappers

Wiki - Yes we now have our own Wiki section. We will add Wiki's for various topics. Suggestions are welcome!

Groups. It's like a community within a community. Each Group can have it's own Blog, Forum, Media, Wiki, and custom Pages. We may create a Group for associated communities. Like The Foundation, if we revive it for another MMORPG.

Friends, Lets you stay in touch and keep track of your friends.

There are various other features that you will find or I may write about at a later date.

Lot's more information and it's easier to find.

In Other News...

Left 4 Dead is the most played game in the community these days, and our server does see some usage. There are some remnants of Age of Conan still around. Call of Duty World at War would be played a lot more if we could get our server up and running. We are missing the CD version of the files that can be patched for dedicated server. Counter-Strike will be picking up the pace again once we release our new Map and Mod. Still a work in progress! More info here

That's it for now... Enjoy the site, post anything you find that needs fixing so I can take care of it right away. We are using the Site maintenance and Repair Wiki for now.

Front Page News (6/1/2008 - 6/29/2008)

Welcome to "The Foundation" and PG Gaming Community!

//Updated - June 29, 2008

Front page update for information on changes occurring in the {MC} community/site and world in general.

What's happening in the MC community? Well for starters, Age of Conan was released a little over a month ago. It's an MMORPG based during the time of King Conan as written by Robert E. Howard back in the 1930s. The game is getting great reviews and is loved by most of the people I hear talking about it. There is some bad press as well due to some of the major bugs that affect some people. Some of which we have some fixes posted for, such as the OOM (Out of Memory Error)

Long Live The Foundation!

The Foundation is still growing. We are over 100 strong now! We are still recruiting quality, mature and dedicated team players. We have built our Tier 1 City, and intend on getting it to Tier 2 and 3 as soon as possible. If you are interested seek us out on the Bloodspire PVP Server or post in our Guild Forums. The AoC section of our Forums will grow as needed with new sections for Guild and AoC related information. We look forward to seeing you all in Hyboria!

The Guild forums section will be undergoing a restructuring in the coming weeks to allow for a more structured environment.

In other news, there are a few AoC holdouts, those that either don't want to pay per month or their computer can't handle AoC.

Ventrilo: It's where we live... If you really want to know what's going on with us, come visit us.

The site will be undergoing a Hyborian facelift when my schedule permits. I am open to suggestions and any graphical assistance is welcome. This theme will still be available to those who prefer it.

Front page update for information on changes occurring in the {MC} community/site and world in general.

So, the front page was getting a little stale, so I'm going to do something completely unheard of. I, {MC}Troop, have updated the front page of the site.

The {MC} Community would like to encourage everyone to participate in Earth Hour today. On Saturday, March 29, 2008 <strike>(that's today)</strike>, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights (and any other electronics) for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone to conserve energy, save money, and support the environment. After all, most of us do live on Earth. If we plan to continue to live here, we need to take care of it.

What has the {MC} community been up to recently? Well, if you look to the left of this web page, you will see that we have added the Call of Duty 4 Server to the front page. We play CoD4 for a few hours each today, and we're starting to get more and more people to join in. Go get it! Don't forget to join us in vent while you play.

After over six years of dedication towards the {MC} community, our friend (space)Cash has been invited into the {MC} clan. This means that he is <strike>now my equal</strike> still a minion compared to me.

Between the Netherlinian elephant graveyard, the rants about bacon, the "no right click", and the "Troop is still here..." It's good to know that some people are finally understanding a bit a {MC}'s (and my) sense of humor. Actually, it only takes a little while on ventrilo with everyone here to understand these things, because they are primarily inside jokes.

Our source servers are down! Oh no! The machine died, and we have no time to fix it (because we're busy updating the site) // (or transfer the servers) right now. Hopefully nobody gets any cravings to play source, because they could be like this for a little while.
---
the CS:Source server is up.

Starwars_Trench2, {MC}ParaDOX's <strike>final</strike> latest starwars_trench based map, has been uploaded to cstrike-planet (it only took roughly a year). It has yet to be accepted for downloading.

Troop was here...And Rush <strike>Conquered...</strike> wishes he conquered.

Front page update for information on changes occurring in the {MC} community/site and world in general.

- Posted October 13th, 2007
--------------------------------------

While {MC}Rush is taking a break for school, work and life in general, I thought I would bring you guys up to speed...

The Orange Box has been released and for those who have it we understand why you might be a little scarce over the next few days or weeks.

I haven't even touched HL2:EP2 yet, been too busy with Portal, my new love... It won't last forever though. At least not until the mapping community comes out with some new content. Portal is the most amazing new concept for Puzzle games, Kudos to Valve for having the foresight to realize the potential in Narbacular Drop. Download it and play it to get an idea about Portal, It's Free! They took on the developers from this simply amazing game and had them do it for real on the Source engine, Valve style. The result is simply addicting...

However. in other news.....

Team Fortress 2

We got in on the TF2 bandwagon as soon as the beta was released via the pre-ordering of the Orange Box. The beta was amazing! Hardly any problems. Our server was mostly full and stable as a rock! After a couple of days we started noticing 32 slots server showing up. I did some research and found the there were two ways that this was accomplished. One was a hacked version of the server.dll file, the second and preferred method was a plugin written by Tony P. which can be downloaded from SourceOP's site. Our server was thriving as a 32 slot server for a couple weeks until Valve dropped a bomb on the whole community!

Below is excerpt from my post in our forums about this:

Valve has decided in their ultimate wisdom, to limit the number of player slots visible in the Server browser for TF2. This is a sad day in the gaming world. Where valve is deciding how we should host our server with thier games. I understand this is their game, really I do. but they should try to understand that we the players and server operators love their games so much because of the variety of things we can change, whether by Third party mods such as our Superhero and War3FT servers or just by changing the default Cvars to suit our playing style like the Starwars2 server which built this community! If we couldn't change the gravity on the starwars 2 server where would this community be right now? Probably wouldn't exist in this form, I can almost guarantee it. It was the low gravity that attracted people to our servers with the 24/7 starwars2 map. Other servers ran that same map but died away with the normal gravity. It allowed us the freedom to play CS our way, not the way the developers had invisioned, true, but nonetheless enabled a new style of playing. Air-strafing was born on our servers shortly thereafter and lives here still! I seriously doubt there are many other Air-Strafers out there like our guys....

Without the flexibility to do what we want within the game and the servers we would not have War3FT, Superhero, Surf,. Climbing, Zombie and many more different style of servers. I think CS would have died if it were not for the mod and mapping community that has kept rejuvenating it with new and creative content.

In any case I posted a message in the HLDS list which I know is frequented by Valve personell such as Gabe Newell and Jason Ruymen to name a few.

here is what I posted:

OUCH!!...

To actually go so far as to modify the server browser so that it won't list 32 slot TF2 servers! Never mind fixing the issues the server browser has, with various servers not displaying for whatever reasons. They chose to take away our choices. To run as many slots as we see fit, with the settings we see fit for our community. To the best of my knowledge without any notification or explanation.

First FF, now this...

All it would have taken was another filter option on the client side to select how many player slots you want display. A useful feature for any mod.

Do it in ranges: 1 - 10, 11 - 16, 18 - 24, 25 - 32 Or do it using > or < any number. An option to filter on a number of players actually playing on servers, rather than just not empty.

Any thoughts on this?

LET THE PLAYERS AND ADMINS DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES!!! YOUR MAPS WON'T BE THE ONLY MAPS FOR TF2 (or will they? Still no fgd...)

I have been hosting only Valve related servers for so many years now, since at least 2000, (WonID anyone?) that this last blow is hitting me really hard. My small community was originally based on CS. Since then we have branched out to other mods such as: CS:S, DOD:S, Gmod 10, Dystopia, Eternal Silence and now TF2. These are just the mods we liked enough to put up servers for. We currently run 18 servers and 3 HLTV servers. The love of doing this for the community is the only thing keeping me from shutting them all down right now. I am still on the fence about keeping our TF2 server up.

I pay for the bandwidth and hardware out of my own pocket, I have never asked for nor taken anything from anyone to help pay for this. It truly is something I love to do. Or at least I used to...

P.S. I do not use the modified server.dll I use the plugin. Thanks Tony, works great!

So today I will post a vote in my forums, to see if TF2 survives or not in our little community.

Yours, Truly disappointed,

Mike ParaDOX

This doesn't even begin to express my true feelings about this. My first thought was to pull the plug. But I would be selfish if I didn't consider you guys first. So let me know what you think...

Thanks...

I think Team Fortress 2 is still worth it even gimped with 24 players per server, however I think it is unfair of Valve to not give the community what it wants. After having had a taste for 32 players. I don't think I can go back to playing just 24, It's almost too easy when there are not a lot of people playing together. I love the frantic hecticness of the 32 slot servers. I frankly don't see why they can't just let us decide how we want to play. It's all about Choice. We no longer have one when it comes to TF2 and the number of players on a server...

Eventually I can see them not releasing SDK's for the new games and forcing people to play it Valve's way or Valve's way..

Variety is what keeps the PC Gaming community alive. I don't know about you guys but I get bored really easy with most games.. I need custom content and mods to keep me interested...

Thats all for now...
