Hey guys, just got my modem replaced- this one is cool and "stealthy" looking. So anyways, when they installed it it changed most of my IE settings and one of the things it did was up ont he main bar put "Windows Internet Explorer provided by Comcast" on it. So how do I get rid of the stupid "provided by Comcast?" I looked under Tools>Internet Options but couldn't find anything.

No, I won't switch to firefox, get over it and don't make any smart remarks about it.

Why did they install anything on your computer just to switch a modem?

Wow, That's Lame!!

That is a method called branding. You should be able to remove it in the registry. I'll look for the Reg keys later...

For future reference unless your cable modem is connected via USB (which it shouldn't except in the worst case scenario)

DO NOT LET THEM INSTALL ANYTHING!!! IT IS NOT NEEDED NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY!!!!!

They could have installed spyware or any number of nasties that are not approved by the cable provider.

They installed a program called Desktop Doctor, which is apparently for helping home users connect to the internet. I don't think they should be using this, they're supposed to be experts. Here's the comcast page about it: http://www.comcastsupport.com/sdcxuser/asp/home.asp

However, that's one of the things. They installed "Comcast High-Speed Internet Install Wizard" (Once again, they are supposed to be experts, why are they using an install wizard?!). And the other is "Desktop Doctor".

I'm going to uninstall both now, I'll tell you what happens when they're gone if anything does change.

 Edit:
I have good news. The uninstalling removed the "provided by comcast", and I found something. Right before I clicked uninstall avast! anti-virus came up upon a virus under
C:\Program Files\support.com\providercomcast
It's a JS: Feebs Family
Virus/Worm

Though assuming this was for Desktop Doctor to check if your internet connection was working properly, I'm not exactly sure what the JS: Feebs Family does. All I know is comcast is doing something they shouldn't, and it's probably illegal.
