Yes it has been a long time since Paradises Garage has been updated with some new news. But I am here to explain.

As it was evident in our last front page update, we are/we're playing Anarchy Online. Anarchy Online gave us the opportunity to expand our community through the development of the MC Labs Org and with that, this site was not functioning very well to provide appropriate material for our new demographic. This does not mean that Paradises Garage or MC is now defunct, rather far from it. We felt that it would be more appropriate to open up a new site dedicated to our Anarchy Online patrons full of resources that anyone would expect from MC and Paradises Garage. With that said, at the top of this page in the menu bar, there is a link to the MC Labs site for anyone to check out, especially if you are here for AO material (www.mc-labs.org/mcweb3). Please keep in mind that that site is still currently under development (It is fully functional, but still have some kinks to work out).

But enough with the old, were here with the new. I am proud to say that we have actually found a new game to play, that game being Minecraft. If you haven't heard of Minecraft, I fear that you have either been living under a rock for the last year or have spent that time trying to find the secret room in Starwars_Trench2. Nonetheless, Minecraft is a sandbox game based on a very simple java engine. As unsatisfying as that sounds, Minecraft brings very interesting concepts to the table. One of those being the near infinite play area of the server. If you spawn and immediately start walking in one direction, by the time you make it to a boundary, you will wonder how your fellow man settled on Mars (its OK, you were on the Ringworld the entire time). Below the endless surface, there are intricate mazes of mines that are also open to exploration in which you can find your materials to start the building process. Yes, unlike garrys mod, you cannot spawn materials and just start building, oh no, you gotta work to utilize that imagination.

Now, this game is not free, but its not overly expensive either. go to www.minecraft.net and buy yourself a copy. It is about $20 dollars a copy which isn't a killer compared to all those Call of Duty's you have bought over the years. Once you buy an account, the downloader is very small and will take no time to download, install and start playing. Once you have all of that taken care of, join us in our Team Speak and we will give you our server information - (Will very likely be posted on the site once I clarify with ParaDOX that is OK to publish the server information).

A few other plugs I want to throw into this edition of the Front Page News since it has been 9 months or so since you last had one. Portal 2 is up for preorder on Steam. I don't know that many people who disliked Portal 1 so if you were a fan of the game, you definitely want to be sure to get a hold of the preorder to save 5 bucks off the overall cost of the game. If you haven't played Portal, if you join the TeamSpeak and talk to me, I have a few full copys I can gift over so you can try it out.

Duke Nukem Forever actually has a release date - Enough said!

And finally - I have always been dedicated to pushing free advertisements for team Dystopia, but this time, its not about Dystopia. A few months back, Team Dystopia became Puny Human Games and is currently in a closed beta for their supporters for their upcoming game Blade Symphony. Blade Symphony is a source mod melee game where players go head to head with only swords in very attractive surroundings. I personally don't know too much about the game since I have yet to have tested it, but you can check out more information on the game at http://www.blade-symphony.com/

Until next time meatbags.

Re: *Om Nom Nom* New Computer *Nom*

I had two Seagate drives die on me in the last year. The first one was the same one you just bought which died after having installed for about 8 months or so. (Luckily it was only my media drive which had everything backed up on my home SAN). The other one was a 500gb which I had for about 3 or 4 years (The only seagate I've intentionally bought.). I'm for Western Digital only at the moment. And seriously? A Radeon GPU? GeForce is the unofficial standard for gaming being evident that there is a GeForce label on most big release PC games (but seriously, who buys games in a store anymore).

Re: Destroy websites with Asteroids!

Along the same lines

Although DND was practically the start of establishing rules and characteristics to the players, all RPG really is is group story telling. In fact that whole concept is why I played AO for the time that I did (If you all recall, I disapeared, came back and all of a sudden changed my opinion about playing an MMO and started playing AO). Its because I spent a summer doing RPG. The dungeon master establishes the rules, creates the characteristics and develops the introduction to the story. The development of the characters and how the story takes place is all based on the players itself, which makes it interesting to both the players and the DM because you cannot anticipate what will happen next (kinda like RL!)

Some formats I have played:

Zombie Survival (Based on D20 - characters were based off of ourselves - scenario was our town)

Star wars (One was based off of D20 - Trilogy timeline the other was based off of D100 and took place during the old republic)

Call of Kathulu(sp) (D6/D20 - twist of the game was that it eventually became inception...and then escape from gitmo)

Old West (D20 - weird, turned out to be the orgon trail more than anything else, never finished due to boredom)

Most Dangerous Game (D20 - based on survival - crazy man trying to hunt us down)

And I have DM one game

It was a cross-breed between Dystopia and AO that I had in a dream. Was a world where government was brought down by 5 huge corporations and all 5 corporations were in constant war. Everyone worked for these corporations except clan factions who essentially developed high-tech civilizations with a 3rd world asthetic look. One corporation tracks down about 50 clan faction cities and launches and all out assault on these civilizations killing nearly all its inhabitants. Player wakes up in a police transport surrounded by other clan factions with either similar or different outlooks depending on the users background story they develop for their character. Characters then decide how they will seek their revenge. (essentially summerized - I still have my write up of rules and background stories if anyone is ever interested).

Surprisingly this one worked out quite well and held everybodies interest for quite a while, especially the overall flexability I gave all players at the very beginning development stage of their characters. Based off of a D6/D20/D100 depending on situations.

</nerd>

Re: Portal 2: Co-op

All current development for portal 2 is for PC, where all console versions will be direct ports over to those systems with LESS features than the PC excluding the Playstation 3. Sony proved to valve that their technology is a much more open platform than the xbox and wii, therefore the Playstation 3 will be the only console version in while steamworks will actually be incorporated. Those who own the games on Xbox and wii will actually have to pay for any new content and features without steamworks. Those of us with steamworks will get all new content and features automatically and free with steamworks.

Valves focus is the PC due to steam and its going to be that way for a long time thanks to steam. They only appease console with the privledge of being able to play the games. Nothing more.
