In this episode Light came up with a brilliant plan to take out a major threat, Mello. After finding out his whereabouts, Light found a way to kill most of the mafia group that's currently with Mello just by using pictures and Misa's eyes. When Light then comes with the plan of revealing himself as Kira, after having found out Mello’s location, and give the police a second Death Note, so that they can make the eye-deal and kill Mello by only having to look at his face, his father (Yagami Soichiro) just feels obliged to be the one to do it.

Just when Kira kills most of the mafia, team Soichiro is ordered to break in and retrieve the death note. They succeed, but they have one more objective: to catch Mello. With the help of the Shinigami eyes, Soichiro now knows Mello's real name, Mihael Keehl. Instead of writing his name down in the death note thus killing him, his morals took over and tried to apphrehend Mello. This however fails and Mello gets away by blowing up the whole building, resulting in the death of Light's father.
